Iron Horse Toasts Diversity with Rainbow Cuvee
Iron Horse Vineyards announces the March 17, 2014 release of a new, limited edition, vintage Sparkling Wine called Rainbow Cuvée, available at the winery and on the Iron Horse website.
"It's meant for everyone who believes in love, justice and equality," says Iron Horse CEO Joy Sterling. "And, nothing says marriage quite like a gorgeous bottle of bubbles."
The wine is vintage 2009 Blanc de Blancs - 100% estate Chardonnay, aged three-plus years en tirage. The dosage, or finishing element, makes it unique. Only 250 cases were produced.
Dosage is the final ingredient to go in the bottle before the cork. It is syrup made of wine and sugar. How much is added to the bottle sets the degree of sweetness to dryness of the Sparkling. The composition of the dosage sets the style, like a spice or seasoning.
"It never ceases to amaze me how a few milliliters can change the color, bouquet, weight, flavors and finish," says Sterling. "Rainbow Cuvée is certainly one of the most delicious we have ever produced. "
The copy on the back label reads: "Iron Horse celebrates diversity with this vintage Blanc de Blancs Sparkling, 100% estate grown Chardonnay, aged three plus years en tirage, balancing crisp, bright flavors with rich maturity. Our family tradition is to make a wish on every rainbow."
The release date coincides with rainbow season in the vineyards. "We are told Iron Horse has more rainbows per square inch than anywhere else," says Sterling.
Iron Horse is best known for its Sparkling Wines, which have been served at the White House for five consecutive Presidential Administrations, beginning with the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings in 1985, ending the Cold War.
Other historic occasions include the White House Millennium celebrations New Year's Eve 1999 ushering in the new century and the White House dinner honoring the Pope on his 80th birthday. The family is extremely proud that the Obama White House served Iron Horse at the State Dinner honoring the Queen of England at the Ambassador's Residence, Winfield House, in London, May 25, 2011 and the working dinner with China's President at Sunnylands in Southern California in June, 2013.
The winery produces another very special, limited production, vintage Sparkling, called Ocean Reserve, in partnership with National Geographic. The winery contributes $4 bottle to help establish marine protected area and reduce over fishing.
Stylistically, "Rainbow" is bright and exciting, dry, surprisingly rich, made for celebration.
The label design is by Mark Berry of Akins Berry Communications www.AkinsBerry.com . The winery retail price is $58/bottle, available at the Iron Horse Tasting Room and on-line. www.IronHorseVineyards.com
