Leo Van Der Smith Earns the Title of RN74 heavy Weight at The “Spirited Rivalry” Cocktail Competition - a Partnership between RN74 and Anchor Distilling Co.

 

 

 

                                 

On Monday, March 24, Anchor Distilling Co. and RN74 partnered for a heated competition in San Francisco, pitting eight bartenders against each other from such San Francisco institutions as Beretta, Alta SF, 15 Romolo, Azucar, Park Tavern, and RN74, highlighting their powers of mixology and their grace under pressure.  Victorious was RN74 mainstay Leo Van Der Smith, who started the competition strong with the visually stunning Mt. Tam Spritz and continued to produce creative and inventive drinks to the last course. A close runner up, Patrick Poelvoorde of Park Tavern, proved to be tough competition producing equally delicious beverages, and conceding the win with only a 14-point margin. Guests at the event were invited to taste three cocktails from each bartender paired with dishes from RN74 Chef Aaron Sobel; match ups included:

The evening’s panel of judges consisted of: Joel Riddell, host of Talk910’s “Dining Around”, Liam Mayclem of The Foodie Chap, Renee Alexander columnist for 7x7, Jeremy Joven owner of Asterisk Magazine, and David King President of Anchor Distilling Co.. Judges were charged with scoring the preliminary beverages before opening the judging to the dinner attendees. Tasked with developing a pairing cocktail for each of the three courses at dinner, Patrick and Leo faced off evaluated by dinner guests. At the end of the meal, with score cards tallied, Leo Van Der Smith went home with bragging rights, a selection from the Anchor Distilling Co. portfolio, and the “RN74 Heavyweight Title.”
